At the end of the transitional period relating to the UK’s departure from the European Union, presently scheduled to end on 31st December 2020, all European Union trade mark and design registrations in force at that time will be cloned automatically and for free into corresponding United Kingdom trade mark and design registrations.
The United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (‘UKIPO’) as of 11pm on 31st December 2020 will issue corresponding UK Registrations with new trade mark and design registration numbers automatically without further recourse to you, unless you actively ‘opt out’ of the cloning process. All priority and seniority dates relating the corresponding EU trade mark registrations will be maintained and entered onto the UKIPO trade mark and design registers.
